Epithets

This is the first assignment for my Classical Tradition class at BYU:

Hacker Supreme
The term 'hacker' has a negative connection to most people -- something along the lines of someone who breaks into your facebook account and sees all of your private messages. Amongst programmers, we use the term positively as someone who can whip up a solution to a problem hastily, even if the finished product isn't very polished. Kinda like the "life hacks" sense of the word. I love building systems, have interned at several big name companies like Facebook, Amazon, and Microsoft, and can't wait to graduate and start work.

Defender of the Prequels
Okay, maybe not all of the Star Wars prequels. I really like the Buddhist and Daoist themes of the Force in Episode III (especially the novelization). It might be simpler to just study Buddhism, after all... maybe I'll be a Buddhist in the next life.

Coca-Cola Enthusiast
I have started a collection of Cokes from around the world. So far, I only have a coke from Zimbabwe, and another with my name printed on the label, but I'll get there, some day.

Dog Lover
Dogs, man. Pure creatures of happiness and joy. I especially like pictures of them, as you don't need to worry about all of side affects of living with a creature covered in hair.

Comments

  1. I can vouch for every one of these qualities. My laptop can vouch for your hacking skills, I have argued with you about Star Wars countless times. You drink more Coke than possible. And dogs, that's your one flaw...

  2. I am surprised that you didn't mention video games because the first time I talked to you one of the first things that you mentioned was video games. Dogs were my favorite things that described you.

  3. Dogs are dope. Dream big with your coke collection. Hack away. I will say I am with you on the prequels. I don't dislike them as much as the new star wars movie that came out...but that is just me.

  4. Hacking is very satisfying, especially since it usually means quickly finding a solution to something that has stumped someone for hours. I suppose that's part of why programmers are sometimes called wizards. Making the frustratingly difficult work in a few minutes is magic. I also love dogs, but I'm a cat lover. Dogs are great as long as they belong to someone else so I don't have to take care of them.

  5. Can't say that my view of hackers has changed but it is good to know there are some good ones out there. I don't have a coke collection but i do have a pretty good sand collection, which is almost as unique as a coke collection.
